South Trail Animal Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida is a full service animal hospital. It is our commitment to provide quality veterinary care throughout the life of your companion animal. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy animals, early detection and treatment of disease as your companion animal ages, and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.

We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and are dedicated to becoming your partner in your companion animals health care. Our goal is to practice the highest quality medicine and surgery with compassion and an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual animal owner.

Learn Who We Are

  • Dr.
    Alton Ford

    Dr. Ford's family moved to Florida in 1962. His education included undergraduate work at the University of Florida and graduating from veterinary school at Auburn University in 1971. He first worked at a mixed practice (large and small animal) in Missouri, but came back to Florida in 1972. In 1975, Dr. Ford and Dr. Gillaspie acquired South Trail Animal Hospital. Dr. Ford and his wife, Debbie, have two daughters. His interests include camping, wood work, yard work, and spending time with his dog, Roly.

    Thomas Gillaspie

    Dr. Gillaspie was raised on a livestock farm in Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. He was in the Army Veterinary Corp in Vietnam and then in private practice in Bradenton, FL. In 1975, he bought South Trail Animal Hospital with Dr. Ford. Dr. Gillaspie and his wife Jayma have four daughters. They currently have two cats at home. He drives the Sunday School bus and teaches junior church for Gospel Baptist Church. Dr. Gillaspie enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but especially orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. He also enjoys bird watching.

    Barbara DeMonarco-Snell

    Dr. DeMonarco-Snell originally hails from Long Island, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science and graduated Magna cum laude from Cornell University in 2000. She then went on to attend Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with honors in 2004 as a member of Phi Zeta honor society. It was through their alma mater the she was introduced to Dr. Gillaspie (KSU 1970) and recruited to join the team at South Trail Animal Hospital and has been here ten years now. Dr. DeMonarco and her husband, Dean, have three children: twins Katie and Sammy, and baby boy, Cole. Their family also includes Penny, the Chihuahua. When not at work, she enjoys boating, scuba diving and spending time with her family.

    Eleanor Cooke

    Dr. Cooke is a native New Yorker and graduated from Tuskegee University in 2004. Before becoming a veterinarian she was a registered dental hygienist for thirteen years. Dr. Cooke joined South Trail Animal Hospital in February 2008. When she is not working, Dr. Cooke has a house full of dogs, cats, a tortoise, birds, and various other pocket pets.  Dr. Cooke enjoys bowling and spending time at the beach.

    Georgia Calloway

    Dr. Calloway originally grew up in El Paso, Texas. She attended Tuskegee University and graduated in 2011. She and her daughter, Sarah, share their home with their dog Buster and cat Chai. Dr. Calloway enjoys treating all types of small animals and has an added interest in exotic medicine. When she is not working, Dr. Calloway loves kayaking, hiking, reading and working on puzzles.

    Joel Noah

    Dr. Noah graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. He has lived in several different states, but has been a resident of Florida the longest. Dr. Noah has been working with animals since he was thirteen when he started volunteering at a zoo. In addition to dogs and cats, Dr. Noah has an interest in exotic companion animal medicine. He has a yellow lab mix Asa, two uromastyx lizards (Bubba and Gus), and a thirteen year old leopard gecko named Lenny. In his spare time, Dr. Noah enjoys the beach, the outdoors, and collecting old books, coins, and fossils. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends.
